A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF) | Sarah J. Maas | Book Review
“No one was my master – but I might be master of everything, if I wished. If I dared.”
You know the series is really good when the
sequel is way better than the first book. And ACOMAF, the second book in the
ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas, fits the pattern perfectly. ACOTAR was sooo
good, and ACOMAF is wayyyy much better!
The way the plot unfolds, the story arcs, the
character developments – everything is so beautifully executed that it never
seems slow, unnecessary, or lacking. Many new characters center to the
storyline are introduced in this book. And we get to see each of these characters
from the perspective of Feyre, whose feelings, anticipation, apprehension seeps
into the mind of the reader, providing a deeper understanding of her
inter-personal relationships with other characters.
The writing follows the fluidity of ACOTAR,
still easy-to-read, and extremely fast-paced. The details are similarly mesmerizing
and remains one of my favorite things about the book. The narrative is both
predictable & unpredictable, forming a perfect blend that make the book a
page-turner. However, the problem with Sarah J Maas trying to be too poetic at
times remain in this book as well, albeit less frequent and a little less
discouraging than before. Alternatively, her beautifully crafted phrases goes
beyond just descriptions and conveys much more, undoubtedly being a significant
plus point in ACOMAF. (I have too many favorite quotes from this book.)
And Rhys!!! He is one of the best male
characters I ever read! He is so perfect and yet with so many faults! I guess
that is what makes his character not only appealing but also relatable.
And Tamlin? He is the poster boy of destructive
love.
Is it over the top? Yeah, sometimes. It’s a
high fantasy afterall.
Is it clichéd? Yeah a bit. (They are called clichés
for a reason, duh.)
Then why should you read it?
Because the story is amazing, the writing is
captivating, there’s great action sequences, and there’s Rhysand – and
everything between him & Feyre ;)
Who should not read ACOMAF?
ACOMAF is not for children, it is an adult
fantasy romance and not a young-adult read. Also, definitely not for those who
have NOT read ACOTAR yet.
New to this series? Check out ACOTAR review as well!
Happy reading!
